Mezhyhirya in March
I have already shown you the residence of the former President of Ukraine, who fled the country after the revolution, from the inside. All the luxury, chandeliers worth millions of euros and closets the size of a Khrushchevka apartment – all this was already there. However, I forgot to show the territory itself, which according to the documents was a children’s health resort.
I was here in March (I came to the Verkhovna Rada for a meeting), so do not expect any special beauties. You should definitely come back here in the summertime and ride around the area on a bicycle. However, the overall picture can be appreciated.
Getting to Mezhyhirya is not difficult, especially if you have your own transportation. I, as you may already remember, went by regular bus. But it is only 20 – 30 minutes drive. At the entrance I buy a ticket – 20 hryvnias. And I go inside, behind the fence, which recently seemed impregnable (even air defense groups were located on the territory to protect from air attacks).
Do not be misled by this decorative fence. It’s just part of a whole fence complex. It’s medieval, my ass.
But the building of the house itself seems very modest from the outside. Many children of the 90s built much larger mansions.
You can see how everything is organized from the inside in a separate report with photos and video.
But, it’s worth admitting that the grounds here are much more impressive than the honka tonka outside.
There’s an artificial pond. It’s not very small. You can fish in it and even go boating. Yanukovych could fish and hunt “without leaving home”. And he could “leaving” – there is an exit to the Dnieper.
Near the shore, the water freezes, which the ducks resent. They quack with terrible force, giving you a headache within five minutes. It’s like some kind of “watchful” ducks, honestly.
Still, you should definitely come here in the summer. Or golden fall. Can you imagine what a gorgeous shot you can get here?
Yanukovych also loved kebabs. Remember the brazier in the living room inside? There’s one outside, too. And they’re just amazing in their pomp. For example, this two-story brazier.
Mothers with children walk here, enjoying the nature and air. There is also a zoo inside, about which Mr. former President gave a whole series of “pearls” that blew up the Internet. I will also tell you about it a little later.
It is worth coming here at any time of the year. But summer and fall are the most preferable! Come, as it is not known how long the free access will remain. It’s worth it.
